  8. Jesse Helms is enlisting the so-called dirty pictures he has
  9. so publicly opposed. At a barbecue in Burlington, Helms' speech
  10. included an invitation -- men only, please -- to examine three
  11. portfolios guarded by his assistants. "You won't look long
  12. because you just ate," Helms warned the curious, who stepped
  13. forward to peer at reproductions of the Robert Mapplethorpe
  14. nudes from the show partially funded by the National Endowment
  15. for the Arts. "Tell me whether you resent taxpayers' money
  16. going to this!" boomed the Senator.
